Phoenix Award

In 2001 the NWHA Board of Directors chose to initiate an annual award to be given to an NWHA member who has demonstrated an extraordinary effort toward the betterment of the Walking Horse, shown exceptional love and compassion for a horse or horses, has made or is making an outstanding contribution not only to horses but also to NWHA, and who exemplifies the cause for which NWHA stands. Individuals are nominated by the membership annually for consideration for this award. Individuals who have received this award are:

2001	Don Bell was the first recipient of this award. In this initial year Phoenix Certificates of Merit were also awarded to: Gary Lane, Mickey Anderson, Deb Henne Steffy, Rebecca Giminez, Marietta Gambrell, and Ed Troxler (posthume)
2002	Connie Fenner
2003	Rose Miller
2004	Patricia Comninaki
2005	Tom Gossard
2006	Sharon Corr
2007	Dr. Pam Reband
2008	Juana Grover
2009	Valarie Delana
2010	Hal Bowden
2011	Lori Snyder-Lowe

Pegasus Award

In 2007 the NWHA Board of Directors initiated the Pegasus Award to also be awarded annually to an outstanding individual within the organization. Different, however, is the intended receiver. The Pegasus will be awarded to an individual who has made significant personal contribution to the betterment of the organization. This award has been sponsored by Steve Marshall for a five year period. Recipients of this award are:
