Recognizing that we share a love of naturally smooth-gaited horses NWHA is proud to announce a collaboration with the American Field Trial Association. The TRIP will award a special distance prize to the TRIP member accumulating the highest number of hours at American Field Trial events. This will be a special award at the NWHA annual meeting. TRIP members need only note in their trail logs which rides are field trials in order to be eligible.

Then we've got a program for YOU!!!! Join Walking America's Trails, the NWHA Trail Rider's program and you can do all this while documenting your accomplishments and earning prizes for each level. There are yearly high mile awards which are beautiful silver belt buckles as well as truck decals, shirts, saddlebags etc. And all just for riding your horse. What could be easier!

The program is free to all members of NWHA riding any gaited horse and to any gaited horse owned by a member of NWHA. All you have to do is enter, log your miles and collect your rewards.

You can find the Entry Form Here or they are available for the asking by email contact DeDe Marshall 910-652-2153  deborah.marshall@ncmail.net

Here are a few Rules:

  1. Program is open to any member of NWHA and any gaited horse owned by a member of NWHA

  2. There is no fee to enter this program

  3. As long as the horse is owned by any member of NWHA it may accumulate hours with any rider or any combination of riders

  4. As long as the entered adult or youth rider remains a member of NWHA he/she may accumulate trail hours on any gaited horse

  5. Trail riding time is to be reported in time spent in the saddle and moving, not by the mile covered. Time counts only when actually trail riding. There is no credit given for arena riding, showing, riding in parades or riding within ½ mile of the owner's own house

  6. NWHA officially sanctioned trail rides will count double the actual amount of time spent in the saddle

  7. Trail hours will be counted in ¼ hour (15 minute) increments, with the time rounded out to the nearest ¼ hour and with a ½ hour minimum per ride. If you ride less than ½ hour it's just not really a trail ride

  8. Hours must be reported on the official log forms/book with a separate log for each participating horse and/or rider. These forms will be mailed to you upon receipt of your entry form

  9. The hours will accumulate from Oct. 1 - Sept. 30 for the purpose of yearly high hour awards

  10. Participants will receive trailer/truck decals with additions for each mileage level in addition to patches. Additional awards will be given at 100 hours and then for each 250 hour level achieved. Points for these will accumulate from year to year as long as the horse or rider remains in the program
